The introduction of a zip in synthetic bags, has allowed a variety of moisture control systems to be developed. These systems have been a major step forward in stabilizing sound. However the majority of these systems are fitted to the bottom of drone stocks, and with the use of synthetic bags, have had a major negative effect on sound. This applies to both, solo pipers and bands at all levels.
Consequently the fitting of any attachments to the bottom of drone stocks, also has a negative effect on the sound quality, and reduces the volume significantly.
The Gannaway Moisture Control system differs to other systems, as it takes the moisture out of the air as it enters the bag. This allows an unrestricted air flow through the stock, ensuring maximum tonal sound and volume.
Quality
of Sound from the Pipe Bag
It is widely accepted by
top pipers, that the type of material used for a bagpipe bag has an effect
on the sound quality of the bagpipe. The chanter and drone sound is greatly
improved when the bagpipe is fitted to a leather or skin bag. The sound
that vibrates from the chanter and drone reeds, not only travel down the
chanter or up the drones, but also through the stock and into the bag.
