Many Pipers, Pipebands people and Highland Dancers dream of making their passion their vocation. Donald and Mary Gannaway are two such people who have realised their dream. As both business and life partners they have been the driving force behind the small company that is creating a big reputation for innovation, quality and personal service.

Donald had chanter lessons from an early age but dancing was the priority until he was 12 years old. Mary too was a Highland Dancer achieving success at a national level. Shortly after their marriage Donald and Mary left for Scotland to further advance his love of piping under the stewardship of famous Pipe Major, Donald MacLeod. Not content with the quality of some bags at the time of his return to New Zealand in 1970, Donald set about designing a pipe bag that was superior in air tightness and would rid itself of moisture build-up and lastly, was comfortable to use.

Using his skills gleaned from the footwear industry and working closely with tanneries and adhesive manufacturers Donald's desire to create a unique and superior pipe bag achieved fruition. The Gannaway Pipe Bag was born. Based in Christchurch, a city that dominates the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand's picturesque South Island, D & M Gannaway now export their unique pipe bags and accessories throughout the world.
